Beer or cocktail??

When Cathie and I go to Rockfest, we make goodie bags for each other. Last year while in Texas, I found the neatest 'sunglasses' for her bag.

I showed them to someone during the year and they asked me to bring them a pair back. Only problem is, I can not remember who it was.

So if it was you, please leave me a comment ion this blog or call me, so I can make a note.

Julia's Quilt

This is my favorite quilt, made for my cousin Julia. I saw the quilt in a book and actually wrote the author who sent me the pattern! Thanks Sally Schneider.. I was making the quilt for me and then.......

Julia, who lives in Georgia, was scheduled to come to Maui with us, then found out a few weeks before we were to leave that she had Breast Cancer. She had a few procedures and was cleared to join us with the rest of her surgeries to be done on her return. I wanted her to have 'me' with her, and I knew she would love the quilt. It had hearts so she would know I loved her, stars to remind her of our time in Maui and yellow 'roads' as she LOVES the Wizard of Oz so I thought that the yellow could be the yellow brick road.

I hurried to finish the top and through the Internet found and 'auditioned' a quilter in Maui. I sent pictures and she wrote back what she would do with it. We landed at midnight and by 10:00 the next morning, I was at Kathy's so she could do her magic. I picked it up the day before Julia's plane landed and then sewed the binding by hand.

Julia loved it!

The weird thing about this quilt is that I, of course, stitched the label before Julia landed. A few days later, we noticed that the earrings she wore had the word 'Believe' on them.

She is better today....So BELIEVE...

New job!

My contract ended October 31 at the Marketing Board and today I started a new 'job'.

I am now an official Volunteer at the Concordia Hospital, which is just a few minutes from home.

And apparently, I was the fastest Volunteer ever to be processed.

I saw a little ad in a Coffee Time Newsletter and phoned on Friday. I sent in an online application and by the time I had my interview this morning at 10:00, they had already called my references. Thanks Trudy and Pat for the 'glowing' references.

The interview went so well and when they asked when I could start, I said right away. Since Blaine's Aunt is in that hospital, I had arranged to meet Blaine there and after a visit, I went to read my orientation kit and started in the gift shop right after noon!

They have a great gift shop by the way with many unique items, so if you are in the area, pop in!

Anyhow, I will be working there probably 3 or 4 days a week (at least) until we leave. I will also be helping a friend that has 3 jobs when I am not at the hospital, so I will be busy until we leave. Ok, so i like to work!!

Tomorrow at the hospital, I am helping set up a raffle and I will help with office work and organizing and greeting people and what ever else they need done (except work in Emer - as I just can't see myself directing people that come in that entrance).

Other than that, we have been cleaning up around the house, getting ready for our housesitter, Barb, to move in for 3 months. Since she will need room for her food, clothes and personal items, that means leaving a bedroom dresser and kitchen cupboards pretty well empty. These are the days when I miss our old house with its million cupboards and closets!

Bob Dylan

Last night, Lucy and I went to see Bob Dylan thanks to Cathie's husband who had a few extra tickets to the box seats. As expected, there was no stage presence by Mr. Dylan or any of his band members. Yeah, yeah, we went for the music. Anyhow, there was no video and and Mr. Dylan was facing the other direction so we couldn't see him at all. He did turn around a few times and we were both able to catch a glimpse through the binoculars. That seemed to fulfill us both because we looked at each other and after about an hour, called it an evening.

Lucy is putting on a big production in support of the Human Rights Museum this week, so she was pretty tired. $75 per person...great cause....one of the prizes is a $20,000 vacation!!! Call St. Vital Mall for details.

Trip to Stonewall

Today Linda came over and took some photos of my 'America the Beautiful' quilt. She is a great photographer and I am going to submit the photos to the magazine that had the patterns.

I'll let you know if they get published. (I will tell the world!!)

Linda works at Marathon Threads and brought me some bobbins to test on my machine. They are prewound with thinner thread, so you don't have to change bobbins so often. I plan to test them out as soon as I am finished my current work in progress. More on that later. Still a secret.

After that,we went to Stonewall to the Quilter's Cottage. They are the ones that put on the retreat a few weeks back. I won a gift certificate that had to be used by the end of the year. Linda helped me pick out some fabrics for a few special projects, then we went off to lunch.

A nice drive and an enjoyable day.

I do not miss working...yet.
